Kromek (UK) and Adaptive Imaging Technologies (Israel) have been awarded $400,000 and $100,000 respectively, as the winners of the Global Security Challenge competition 2009.  The security companies, who were chosen out of hundreds of worldwide entries, pitched their inventions at the GSC Security Summit conference held at London Business School.  The winners were chosen by expert Judging Committees, including leaders from Accenture, BAE Systems, Barclays, the US Department of Defense and Paladin Capital Group.

The winners of the Global Security Challenge are:

Best Security SME
Kromek
has developed a product family that ranges from systems which can non-invasively identify liquids in containers of any type, right through to advanced technology explosive detection systems.  The two technologies highlighted at the Global Security Challenge were a threat liquid identification system (bottle scanner) which can deal with individual containers and a unit for screening multiple containers in a 311 bag configuration, or indeed other small objects.  (www.kromek.com)

Most Promising Security Start-up
Adaptive Imaging Technologies
has developed a new digital video technology for persistent surveillance. The Adaptive technology provides breakthrough improvement in both cost and performance.  The core benefit is that a single device provides the same functionality as a large number of conventional wide-angle and telescopic cameras. In other words, systems that require numerous high-end cameras today are able to use a single Adaptive camera instead.  (www.adaptiveimagingtechnologies.com)

Prior to the London grand final , the twelve finalists successfully made it through two rounds of judging, including regional finals held during September and October in Brussels, Athens, Washington DC, Chicago, Silicon Valley and Singapore.

The other finalists of the Global Security Challenge were:

The founders of the Global Security Challenge (GSC), Simon Schneider and Janeen Chupa, commented in a joint statement:  “We are proud of all the contenders in this year’s GSC.  After multiple judging rounds, our independent panel of judges chose Kromek and Adaptive Imaging Technologies from amongst the hundreds of applicants as the winners of the Global Security Challenge. We expect all the finalists to significantly add to the discussion of security innovation and to become new success stories.”
